What’s a Poor Mets Fan To Do?

alyssa3 What’s a Poor Mets Fan To Do?

Hey, if any of you live in suburban NJ, or thereabouts, I am having a book signing tonight. It’s at Restaurant MC in Millburn and will run from 7 PM to about 10 pm. And if my book is not enough of an inducement to trek out in the lovely October rain, we will have compliementary appetizers and 1st drink on the house. So bring the whole family!

And the World Series will be on in the background.

For those of us who still admit to rooting for the Mets, well, needless to say this isn’t the World Series matchup we all dream of. But the good news is that thanks to Yankee dominance, Mets ineptitude, and my mediocre Fantasy teams, I have discovered the joy of losing interest in baseball. No more of sitting tensely through 18 pitch at bats at midnight, or really watching much at all.

But hey, gotta pick a Lesser of Two Evils here, so to the extent I watch this, I will root for the Phillies.

Why you ask? Well…

1) They’re not actually Evil, they just have the misfortune of playing in Philly.

2) The whole Met-Phillie rivalry is totally overblown. In my memory of baseball, which extends back to like the mid 70′s, the Mets and Phillies have been good in the same here about twice. Until 2006 it was only the Braves.

3) I can’t visualize myself seeing Pedro pitch in Yankee Stadium and rooting against him.

4) I loved that whole streak Philly had of not winning a title in anything since 1983, but that’s over now anyway.

5) Yankee fans will consider 2009 a total failure if they lose in the Series.

6) Yankee loss means a full decade without a title, which for them is like the Cubs going 100 years without winning.

7) McCarver would literally cry on air if the Yankees don’t win.

icon cool What’s a Poor Mets Fan To Do? Mmmmm, Cheesesteaks.

9) Your 2011 Yankee lineup. Mauer, Texeira, Cano, A-Rod, Jeter, Holiday, Sizemore, Swisher, and Bay as DH. Rotation will be Sabathia, Halladay, Burnett, Beckett and Cliff Lee. This may be the last Yankee team to win under 130 games.

10) OK, just don’t care that much, will settle for a big rebound from the Giants against the Eagles on Sunday afternoon.
