Nice Call

OK, as long as I've spent some time whining about baseball this week, how about a couple more.

Like getting replay, I mean the Twins probably wouldn't hold anything under a 5-run lead anyway, so not saying they'd have won the game and no way they win the series. But.....you have umps specifically added for this sort of call in the playoffs and he's standing 3 feet away looking right at it, and......it's only the most egregious of the 20 missed calls this week.

And I understand that 5000 studies have proven "clutch" doesn't exist. There are clutch hits, not clutch hitter, yada yada. I just refuse to buy the underlying assumptions. It seems pretty clear a pitcher can step it up and bear down in different situations, but a hitter can't? You can't tell me that pitching or hitting (or fielding for that matter) in the 9th inning of a tight playoff game is the same as a middle inning midseason AB. I'm guessing the issue is that sample size is so small that we can't draw meaningful statistical conclusions.

So if you read my book, you'll see I do in fact believe in statistics. I just think sometimes you have to trust your eyes.
